The opening press conference between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor promised fireworks and it didn’t disappoint.

Mayweather tried to play it cool and remain calm in the face of McGregor’s entertaining theatrics, as the Irishman attempted to wind up the former five-weight world champion at every available opportunity.

He was even involved in a comical exchange with Mayweather’s father, Floyd Mayweather Snr.

McGregor will feel he won the opening battle but, of course, pre-fight trash-talk means nothing unless it’s followed up by a convincing performance in the ring.

And the 28-year-old will need to prove he’s not all talk when they finally go head-to-head in the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on August 26.

Towards the end of the lively press conference, McGregor and Mayweather went head-to-head and words were exchanged.

But it wasn’t possible to hear what, exactly, they were saying to each other.

McGregor reveals what was said during face-off

Fortunately, though, McGregor revealed what was said during an interview after the press conference.

“He was trying to say something about the gloves. I was like: ‘You cried about the gloves, you cried about the ounces in the gloves.' Then he tried to say something about MMA next and I was, 'You're talking s**t that you won't do.’”

Asked if he felt caught off guard by the whole arrangement of the press conference, the Irishman added: “I didn't get told nothing. I didn't know [there were going to be] speeches. It's a completely different format [to UFC press conferences].

“Before Dana went up, he was like, 'You got a speech?' I've got no f***in' speech.

“I just rolled up and started talking shite. I had fun. That's the main thing.”
