British tennis star Andy Murray gained many new fans today despite crashing out of Wimbledon to American Sam Querrey.The 30-year-old Scot was beaten in five sets on Centre Court on Wednesday afternoon after struggling badly with a hip injury.Querrey took advantage of Murray's troublesome hip to win 3-6, 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-1, 6-1.At the age of 29, Sam Querrey will celebrate reaching his first ever grand slam semi-final and has notably knocked out the previous champion at each of the last two Wimbledon tournaments.He produced a major shock to eliminate Novak Djokovic in the third round in 2016 and no one expected the no.24 seed to repeat his giant-killing heroics today.

Speaking to the press after his defeat, Andy Murray showed his class by schooling a mindless journalist who had chosen to completely overlook womens tennis.

Serena Williams has alone won 14 grand slam titles since 2009 and Murray's brilliant retort drew endless praise on social media.

Djokovic hobbles out of Wimbledon

Serbian star Novak Djokovic was also defeated in today's quarter-finals, retiring after losing the first set to Tomas Berdych.

The three-time Wimbledon winner received treatment on his arm and shoulder early in the match and was forced to quit after feeling a twinge as he hit a forehand into the net at the beginning of the second set.

Roger Federer, who turns 36 next month, sailed into the semi-finals after a 6-4 6-2 7-6 (4) victory over Milos Raonic.

The 18 time Grand Slam champion is the overwhelming favourite after Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray joined Rafa Nadal as surprise early casualties.

The legendary Swiss superstar will face Tomas Berdych in the semi-final on Friday whilst Sam Querrey goes up against no.7 seed Marin Cilic.
