The anticipation for the biggest fight of the year continues to boil over.

UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor is set to make his professional boxing debut next month, when he takes on undefeated legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. The bout has been long discussed for over a year now, with fans clamoring to see two of the biggest names in combat sports go head-to-head inside the ring.

Yesterday (Tues. July 11, 2017) the pair held their first of four press conferences in their World Tour to promote the event, and the verbal fireworks were in full effect in the Los Angeles Staples Center. McGregor kicked off the presser and joked about the limited rule set that boxing brings to combat sports.

"The Notorious One" stated that for this reason his fight against Mayweather is 'half a fight' compared to what he's used to doing inside of the Octagon (quotes via LowKickMMA):

“I don’t fear him, I don’t fear this limited set of fighting- this is a limited set of rules,” McGregor said. “That makes this half a fight. A quarter of a fight. This isn’t a true fight. If this was a true fight, it wouldn’t even take one round.”

“All these rules, all these restrictions, it doesn’t phase me. It amuses me. The gloves – they have to be 10 ounces. 154 pounds, he has never fought at 154 – I think he has only fought at 154 maybe once.

"He wants the gloves up, no problem. Give him the gloves up. I’ll wear 10 ounces. No Mexican-made gloves. Okay, no problem. No gloves made out of horse hair. Alright, no problem. I don’t give a f*ck.

"We’re only wearing gloves in our game about five years. So I don’t give a sh*t about gloves or any of that. I’m just enjoying it. It’s funny to me, all these rules.

"All I need is a gum shield, line me up to the ring, and I’m good to go.”

“Floyd has a problem but doesn’t want to come over and deal with it,” he said. “He wants me to come over on his side so Ima do that. That’s confidence.”

The pair are set to go 12 three minute rounds while wearing 10 ounce gloves at 154 pounds. The action goes down live from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on August 26th on Showtime pay-per-view (PPV).
