One of the strangest rumors circulating during the NBA offseason this summer is that LeBron James might decide to head west and play for the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2018-19 season.

The Lakers are indeed positioning themselves to be huge players on the free-agent market next offseason, and LeBron has ties to the Los Angeles area as he tries to set himself up for his post-basketball career.

Former Indiana Pacers star Paul George, who was recently traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder, will be a free agent next summer and has expressed a desire to play for his hometown Lakers, so there should be plenty of star power on the Los Angeles roster to help convince James to join in.

But the hypothetical LeBron James-Paul George combo might not be the only stars the Lakers have by the time the 2018-19 season starts, according to The Ringer's Bill Simmons. On a recent episode of his podcast, Simmons said he thinks the Lakers could have four All-Stars on their roster in the coming years (via Yahoo! Sports):

“What if I told you that 12 months from now, LeBron James, Paul George, John Wall, and Boogie Cousins will all be on the Los Angeles Lakers together?” Simmons asks. “Conspiracy Bill has some things that he doesn’t like about what’s going on. I think the LeBron James–L.A., he hasn’t come out and denied it. Everyone’s talking about it in the league, it became public last month. He knows they’re talking about it and hasn’t said anything. Hasn’t said, ‘This is ridiculous. I’m so tired of hearing this. I want to finish my career in Cleveland.’”

With the Golden State Warriors poised to dominate the league over the next couple of years if a new super-team doesn't emerge, Simmons' theory is certainly interesting.

He even explains a further connection shared between John Wall and LeBron, which would help convince the current Washington Wizard to head west too:

“So, John Wall, represented by Klutch - Rich Paul - LeBron’s buddy. LeBron, it’s pretty clear he either owns Klutch or funded it or has a stake in it. You could have John Wall and LeBron. Paul George is going to the Lakers anyway. I mean, that’s not even a secret anymore. It’s just like, they might as well start selling his jersey. And I always thought John Wall and Boogie are a team.”

Obviously, one major factor Simmons doesn't discuss is how the four players would fit under the salary cap while still saving enough money to have an even halfway-decent bench unit. However, LeBron has shown in the past he's willing to take a pay cut in order to chase titles, so it wouldn't be out of character for him to do so again if he wants to take a crack at Simmons' idea.
