Transfer fees have increased dramatically in recent years. In 2001, Zinedine Zidane became the world’s most expensive football when he moved from Juventus to Real Madrid for £46 million.Sixteen years later, and that amount of money doesn’t get you every far.In fact, that sort of figure can’t even get you Gylfi Sigurdsson.Everton bid £40 million for the Icelandic midfielder but Swansea rejected the offer, putting a £50 million asking price on him.£50 million for a player that hasn’t won a single trophy during his career!?Ok, Sigurdsson may have proved himself in the Premier League in recent years for both Tottenham and Swansea but it has to be argued whether he’s worth £40 million. One man that certainly doesn’t think he’s worth that much is Sky Sports presenter, Gary Neville. After Sky Sports broke the news that Everton have had their £40 million bid rejected, he replied in just one simple word: “Wow.”

Despite Everton’s bid being rejected, it looks as though Sigurdsson will be leaving the Swans this summer. That’s because he will not travel with the rest of the squad for their pre-season tour to the United States.

"Gylfi did not feel in the right frame of mind to travel due to the current uncertainty over his future," said the Swansea’s official Twitter page.

And manager Paul Clement has admitted that the club may need to sell, despite wanting him to stay.

"I've made it very clear I want him to stay here," said Clement.

"The fans want that, the owners would like that but, ultimately, there's a business side to football as well.

"We had that situation with Jack Cork. In the summer there was no thought of moving Jack on, but it got to a point when another club came in with a really good offer.

"That might end up being the case with Gylfi. We don't know yet."

We’d love to see Neville’s reaction if Sigurdsson does end up costing £50 million.
