The Carmelo Anthony saga with the New York Knicks could be on its way to an end this summer, but it won't be an easy path for anyone.

The Knicks and Houston Rockets are engaging in trade discussions centered around getting Anthony to Houston, but the Rockets lack the kind of pieces necessary to offer an attractive package to the Knicks.

Houston is hoping to add Anthony, one of Chris Paul's closest friends, to their newly-built superteam. Carmelo has a no-trade clause that he's willing to waive in order to end up on the Rockets. Now, it's a matter of finding the right deal to make it work.

The Rockets stripped almost all of their movable assets for a trade like this when they acquired Paul in a sign-and-trade with the LA Clippers. Now, general manager Daryl Morey has to grasp at straws with very few attractive things to offer the Knicks.

That's one of the reasons the Knicks and Rockets are discussing not only three-team scenarios, but four-team scenarios that end with Anthony in Houston, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. When a trade reaches four-team territory, things are  undoubtedly getting complicated for everyone involved.

This is one of the reasons Anthony's camp had hoped for a buyout, creating a far-less resistant path for Carmelo to sign wherever he'd like. The Knicks, of course, want some return on their investment into Anthony. Not only have they been paying him handsomely, they traded a pretty good package to the Denver Nuggets to acquire him years ago.

Carmelo may be in the twilight of his prime, or arguably on the other side of it already, but he can still be a major player in the right situation. The Rockets are one of those locales, with other stars in place to take the brunt of the workload off of Anthony's plate.

Houston isn't the only team still interested in finding their way to Carmelo either. The Cleveland Cavaliers are still keeping an eye on the situation and "haven't abandoned" their interest in landing Anthony, according to Wojnarowski.

The Knicks want out of being tied to Carmelo, the Houston wants to add more fuel to its superteam rocket and the Cavaliers are staying close to the situation. An Anthony trade will surely be one of the biggest dominoes to drop this summer should it happen, and as it stands it appears the Rockets are the team pushing to finally make it happen.
