He is viewed as the natural successor to Zlatan Ibrahimovic's throne and was urged to sign for the Red Devils by his new partner in crime and best friend, Paul Pogba.

The Frenchman arrived last season in a £89m deal but despite costing more than the Belgian international, he failed to get the same level of recognition.

That's because, in his short-lived career with United, Lukaku has already broken one of the club's records, with the tweet announcing that his transfer fee had been agreed becoming the most retweeted in the club's history.

The post earned over 93,000 retweets and was liked over 110,000 times.

It beat Pogba's announcement by some distance and fans will be hoping their adoration for the £75m man's arrival will be paid back on the pitch.

United legend Dwight Yorke believes that his former club have signed the right man, saying to MUTV: "For me, he is the ideal fit for Manchester United when you consider Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Wayne Rooney have left the football club.

"Based on performances over the last three seasons, he has been one of the most consistent and best strikers in England.

"I think he will be a credit to the club," he continued. "I have no doubt that he will bring something totally different. He just has to be himself and enjoy being at Manchester United. He doesn't need to do anything differently.

"Okay, he is at a club that is always under scrutiny and you cannot get away with things here, but he can forgot about that. He just has to play and enjoy himself on the pitch."
