Brighton boss Russell Slade saluted the performance of winger Elliott Bennett following the 2-0 win over Gillingham.
Bennett, signed from Wolves for £50,000, scored from a free-kick and set up the second goal for Tommy Elphick as the hosts climbed out of the relegation zone.
"He is the jewel in the crown at the moment. He epitomises everything I want from my side," said Slade. "For 25 minutes in the first half we looked like a real team. Bennett's goal was a beauty and he should have had another."
He added: "In the second half, our front two didn't get hold of the ball enough, so there are many things we have to work on.
"We have a lot of potential but that's all it is so far. We're not the finished article. I wanted us to go out and play and this was a very important win."
