QPR skipper Martin Rowlands looks set for another lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a knee injury playing for the Republic of Ireland.

The midfielder, who missed most of last season with a cruciate injury, was carried off during the first half of the goalless draw with Montenegro.

He is set to undergo further scans upon his return to Rangers, but Irelend boss Giovanni Trapatonni's initial verdict was depressing.

Trapattoni said: "It's a cruciate ligament injury and the scan looks serious. It's a pity because he has just rejoined the squad."
