AC Milan mean business this summer and they further strengthened their squad on Friday, quite significantly as it happens, by securing the services of Leonardo Bonucci from Juventus. It’s a transfer that has taken everyone in Italy by complete surprise.Bonucci was one of Juve’s leaders and has enjoyed huge success with the Old Lady since joining the Italian giants from Bari back in 2010.In seven season with Juve, Bonucci has won six Serie A titles, three Coppa Italias and reached the Champions League final twice. But he’s now agreed to join the Rossoneri, who have paid a reported €40 million for the centre-back’s services. He has signed a five-year contract with Milan, despite putting pen to paper on a new contract with Juve back in December.

Buffon sends tweet to Bonucci following move

The departure of Bonucci is undoubtedly a bitter blow for Juventus and their supporters.

Fans could be forgiven if they felt angry with Bonucci, who received a tweet from the great Gianluigi Buffon shortly after the transfer was confirmed by Milan.

The 39-year-old goalkeeper tweeted: ”Teammates and travelling companions. We traveled some of the path together. A winning path. I wish you the best. But I'll miss you"

Bonucci responds to Buffon's tweet

No doubt touched by Buffon’s kind words, Bonucci then responded a little while later.

"I'll miss you too,” he replied. “Thanks for the shared victories, the battles won and also those lost. We'll see each other for Italy.“

The bromance is real.

Milan's excellent summer

Milan have enjoyed an excellent summer in the transfer market and will expect to challenge for the Serie A title after signing Bonucci.

Vincenzo Montella had already signed seven players in recent weeks, all aged 26 or under, following the purchase of Bonucci: Hakan Calhanoglu, Mateo Musacchio, Franck Kessie, Ricardo Rodriguez, Andre Silva, Fabio Borini and Andrea Conti.

They have also retained the services of their hugely talented goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Milan are well and truly back.
