The Frenchman opted to stay with the La Liga side due to their transfer ban, so United chose to sign Everton's Romelu Lukaku for £75m, rejecting Real Madrid's Alvaro Morata in the process.

Benfica defender Victor Lindelof was also added for around £31m to complete a fairly healthy reshuffling of the squad so far.

Of course, there will be more arrivals at Old Trafford this summer and one man heavily linked with a move to Manchester is Inter Milan winger, Ivan Perisic.

The Croatian international appears to have been locked in negotiations with the Premier League giants for weeks, with little movement being made between the two parties.

The 28-year-old will likely command a fee close to £50m, something which United are reportedly reluctant to match and now, Inter have offered them a potential compromise.

United will likely have to offload a winger if they acquire Perisic and to avoid them having to find a buyer for one, the Serie A club have said they want Anthony Martial as part of the deal.

The French international fell out-of-favour under Jose Mourinho last season after a stellar debut campaign.

Martial made just 25 appearances for the Red Devils in the Premier League last season, starting just 18 times, but he did still manage four goals and six assists.

However, the pursuit of Perisic suggests the club don't want him around anymore and if they can use him as a bargaining chip, they may well offload him.

Still, selling a 21-year-old with enormous potential plus cash for a 28-year-old who is certainly not world-class does seem a tad baffling.
