The likes of Julio Baptista, Steven Gerrard, Robert Pires and Alessandro Del Piero have all been on show strutting their stuff, but one surprise name may have just produced the finest moment yet.

Frenchman Eric Abidal, who retired from the game back in 2014, took centre stage against Portugal in a 3-2 victory for Les Bleus.

Robert Pires and Ludovic Giuly had given them a comfortable 2-0 lead and Abidal took advantage of a wilting Portuguese defence to add a superb third.

The former Barcelona defender certainly took a leaf out of his former teammate Lionel Messi's book as he galloped through before sending the goalkeeper for a hotdog and slotting the ball into the top corner.

A video of Abidal's moment of magic can be seen below.

Portugal did score two late goals but France were able to see the game out and get their first three points on the board.

On Thursday, they were beaten 4-3 by their arch nemesis Germany, making the victory on Friday even more vital.

As for Abidal, it was just simply great to watch one of the game's most celebrated players back to his best after past health complications.

Back in 2011, the Frenchman was diagnosed with a tumour on his liver while at Barcelona, but in late 2012, he was given the green light to return to the game.

France's next game in the Star Sixes see's them take on Denmark, with a draw enough to see them progress to the knockout stages.
