Several clubs across Europe have been battling it out for Riyad Mahrez's signature after he announced earlier this year he would like to leave Leicester City in the summer transfer window.

Following the Foxes poor Premier League title defence last season, the Algerian has been looking to leave the club in order to keep himself involved in Champions League football during the 2017-18 campaign.

Several big European teams, including Arsenal, are interested in acquiring Mahrez's services for next season, but one team has already received an acceptance from the man himself, according to reports.

Goal has reported Mahrez has agreed to terms with Roma, with the team putting in a bid of €23m for the winger. The 26-year-old has said he will move to the Italian giants only when the Gunners fail to give him an offer of the same value.

It has been said that Mahrez is impressed by the Giallorossi's desire to bring him to Stadio Olimpico, but would prefer to turn out for the Arsenal at the Emirates instead if there is an opportunity to do so.

Leicester City has a £44 million asking price for their Algerian star, so Roma will have to do some more work on their offer before he makes the switch from the Premier League to the Serie A. Mahrez would be the team's replacement for Mohamed Salah who they sold to Liverpool earlier in the transfer window.

It would be quite the swoop for the club considering his determination to play for either Arsenal or Barcelona. It would be surprising if the Gunners don't do a decent attempt to match Roma's offer considering the fact they need more attacking options for next season.

Mahrez has scored 28 goals for Leicester City over the past two seasons, so his goals would be a welcome addition to Arsenal and a team that has already signed striker Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon on a five-year deal for a club-record fee of £46.5 million, which could rise to £52.6 million with add-ons.

The 2015/16 PFA Player of the Year was also a key part of the Foxes' famous Premier League title win two seasons ago, and Arsenal will certainly be hoping he can bring some of that success with him if he makes the switch to the Emirates this summer as they haven't won the league in 13 years.
