Southampton fans must have feared the worst when Liverpool's pursuit of Virgil van Dijk became public knowledge. The recent cases of Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and Sadio Mane are all evidence that would suggest the Reds were going to land another one of Saints' star men.Nevertheless, since Southampton threatened to report Liverpool to the Premier League over their approach for the Dutch centre-back, Jurgen Klopp and co. have been forced to explore other options.Although the club have seemingly stopped their pursuit, Liverpool's fans haven't given up hope on signing the £75m-rated defender just yet.Van Dijk is currently still recovering from an ankle injury which ruled him out of the second half of last season but travelled with the rest of the Southampton squad to Switzerland for their 0-0 draw with St Gallen on Saturday. And a video has emerged of a Liverpool fan pleading for the 26-year-old to move to Anfield as he got off the Southampton bus.Someone on Twitter speculated that Van Dijk didn't directly respond but merely smiled back at the cheeky supporter, however, it is impossible to tell from the video below.

His request didn't completely fall on deaf ears, though, as one Southampton official did respond.

If you listen closely as Van Dijk walks off, a gentleman comes into shot and can be heard saying: "We’ve given you too many, too many!”

We imagine he isn't the only Saints fan who feels that way.

Since 2014, five players have made the move from St Mary's to Anfield but new manager Mauricio Pellegrino will be hoping to buck that trend this summer.

Van Dijk signed a new six-year deal last year - putting Saints in a far stronger position than in the past when Liverpool came calling.

Which means it might take a bit more than one fan's cheeky plea to get Van Dijk to Merseyside this summer.
