After Chris Eubank Jr retained his IBO world super-middleweight belt by beating Arthur Abraham on an unanimous points decision at Wembley Arena on Saturday night, he was hailed by his father as the best in the world.

Speaking to ITV Sport, per BBC Sport, following the fight an obviously proud Eubank Sr announced: "I believe he's the best in the world. Over the coming nine months, he will be able to clean the slate and come away with the Muhammad Ali Trophy and all the belts."

A bold claim by the senior Eubank there.

In truth, Abraham was completely outclassed at Wembley Arena by Eubank Jr as the younger man threw punches at will.

After beating Abraham 18-110, 118-110 and 120-108 the younger Eubank was in a more philosophical mood, telling ITV Sport: "He's the most durable opponent I've faced. I hit him with every punch in the book.

"I'm happy with the performance. I got to show my skills, I got to go the 12 rounds and get the experience in."

Eubank Jr's next challenge

Eubank Jr will next fight Turkey's Avni Yildirim in the quarter final of the Super Series quarter-finals this autumn.

The 25-year-old Turk originally started life as a light heavyweight before dropping down to super-middleweight last year. Yildirim’s last fight was in May against Marco Antonio Periban in Mexico with he won on points.

Yildirim doesn't rate Eubank Jr

Though he has a healthy respect for the older Eubank as a boxer, it is not an admiration he shares for his son.

He said that Eubank Sr was a good fighter back when he was boxing in the 1980s and 1990s but felt that he had made a mistake when he selected him for his son’s next bout.

“Chris Eubank, I respect. Before, he was a good fighter. His son I think is not a good boxer. I’m really, really ready for a great fight.

“Everybody thinks Chris Eubank wins but ‘Mr Robot’ – in September – will win.

“It is my time. This is Champions League, when the tournament finishes, I am [a] hero.” Said the Turkish fighter.
