Mick Foley is one of the most genuine WWE Superstars we have ever seen, and his most recent actions proved that moniker right even further.
Foley retired from in-ring action back in 2012 after running through the independent circuit following his initial departure from WWE in 2001. Foley also did work for Global Force Wrestling (formerly known as TNA or Impact Wrestling) as well as making sporadic appearances for WWE as well. His iconic career was recognized once he was inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame in 2013, and he made even more sporadic appearances on WWE TV from then on.
He was given a more permanent role last year when he was named General Manager of Monday Night RAW by brand commissioner Stephanie McMahon. Unfortunately, Foley was forced to drop his role as RAW GM after needing surgery to heal a nagging injury. He was written off TV after being fired by McMahon and replaced by 2017 Hall Of Famer Kurt Angle by "The Chairman Of The Board" Vince McMahon.
The man formerly known as "Mankind" is very active on social media and loves to share some great stories on his official Facebook page. Recently, Foley shared an extremely emotional story about how he, former Monday Night RAW Women's Champion Charlotte Flair, and former SmackDown Live Women's Champion Becky Lynch helped a dying fan.
Foley visited a fan who was battling Williams disease, and gave the young man the opportunity to speak to two of his favorite stars, Flair and Lynch, before his passing just weeks after Foley's visit:
“A few weeks ago, I received a message about Dillon, a huge WWE fan, fighting cancer, in the final weeks of his life. Dillon was born with Williams disease, characterized by moderate developmental disabilities, along with heart and other medical problems.
"I was thankful that I would be visiting Dillon during WWE SmackDown Live, as his sister told me that although Dillon was going to be very happy to see me, he was fairly shy and wasn’t likely to do much talking while I was there.
"SmackDown would provide an easy bonding agent, so if I stumbled verbally, we could just kind of hang out and watch the action together. Dillon certainly was happy to see me. Williams Disease is often referred to as “The Friendly Disorder”, due to the genial nature of so many affected by it.
"He smiled during the entirety of my visit, and with his mother Patricia and sister Deirdre in the room, we had quite a nice conversation.
"I asked him about SmackDown, and when I learned that a few of his favorite Superstars were good friends of mine, I did my best to continue the conversation while simultaneously texting one of those superstars he had mentioned.
“You wouldn’t happen to have a minute to talk to a big fan who is in the hospital, would you”, I asked
“I would”, came the reply, literally seconds later.
“Thank you – The family will be overjoyed.”
“Oh, deadly!!!”
"30 seconds later, Becky Lynch was on speakerphone, her distinctive Irish brogue filling the hospital room with a palpable sense of joy. It would have been really easy for Becky to simply say goodbye.
"But instead she mentioned that she was in the women’s dressing room, and asked Dillon if there was anyone else he might like to speak to.
“Well, actually, Becky”, I said. “Although Dillon loves you, his absolute favorite is Charlotte Flair.”
"Seconds later, Dillon was talking to his favorite WWE Superstar, and I noted that his sister was recording the conversation – providing a visual account for what was surely a moment he would like to relive over and over again.
"Sadly, the doctors’ estimate proved correct and Dillon passed away within a couple weeks of my visit. His family was so grateful for the kindness shown him, and I am so grateful to have friends so willing to help, so willing to make a difference.
"Dillon’s sister told me the phone call with Becky and Charlotte had provided the family with one more great moment with this gentle, kind-hearted man.
"Sometimes, a little bit of kindness can go a long way”
