DeMerit goes under knife

Published Add your comment

Watford skipper Jay DeMerit has undergone surgery on his freak eye injury.

The American centre-half has been out since a piece of grit got stuck under his contact lens prior to the clash with Plymouth last month.

DeMerit's eye became infected and, despite taking strong antibiotics, the problem did not improve and the decision was made to send the 29-year-old for an operation.

He went under the knife in London on Saturday and could be sidelined for a further two months.
