Gills wait on Vernon

Published Add your comment

Gillingham face an anxious wait to discover if Scott Vernon's loan spell at the club has been ended by injury.

The Colchester striker suffered an ankle injury making his debut for the Gills against MK Dons on Saturday. He had to be substituted just 41 minutes into his month-long stay and left stadium:mk on crutches.

"It's too swollen, it would take three or four days to assess that. He left on crutches so let's see what happens during the week," Gills boss Mark Stimson told BBC Radio Kent.

"After working with Scott Vernon for two days and looking at the start of Saturday's game, it looked like he could be a big plus for us.

"But we just have to get on with it, brush ourselves down and come into work looking forward to the biggest game of the season against Charlton at the weekend."
