Romelu Lukaku may have proved himself in the Premier League for West Brom and Everton in the previous five seasons but playing for Manchester United is an entirely different prospect.

During those five seasons, the Belgian scored 85 goals in 176 league matches - a tremendous record considering the league positions of the two sides during the campaigns.

But having failed to make the grade at Chelsea, Lukaku is hoping to prove he can play for the biggest clubs in the league after making a £75 million move to United.

But his big-money move to Old Trafford brings great expectations.

Like Paul Pogba last season, every performance will be heavily scrutinised with every missed chance being talked about for days.

Lukaku has already experienced that pressure with his first appearance for United in a friendly against LA Galaxy being heavily criticised on Twitter.

United may have won 5-2 but Lukaku didn’t have the greatest of games. A ‘highlights’ compilation video appeared on Twitter moments after the game had finished to mock his display.

Giggs has one concern about Lukaku

It’s probably for that reason that club legend Ryan Giggs has one concern about the striker.

Giggs knows that there will be plenty of pressure on the forward this season and that he desperately needs to develop “thick skin” in order to succeed.

"He will be under scrutiny that he's never had before at West Brom, or Chelsea, or Everton,” he told Sky Sports.

"The pressure will be on you. So he needs to develop a thick skin, he needs to listen to the coaches, because that's all that counts really.

"And if he misses a chance, the next one that comes along he needs to put it away because, as a centre-forward at United, you're under scrutiny all the time. I think he will score goals, but you need goals from all over the park.

"I've seen a bit of (Alvaro) Morata. I've seen more of Lukaku. The pluses with Lukaku are obviously that he's played in the Premier League and Jose has worked with him before, and he's got friends. He's friends with Paul Pogba, and that makes the transition that bit easier."

Well, if the reaction after Lukaku’s performance against LA Galaxy is anything to go by, he’s going to need the thickest skin in the world to concentrate on scoring goals for his new club.
