As Rodger Federer ensured Wimbledon success on Sunday evening, it was a bitter sweet tournament for Britain’s much loved Andy Murray.

However, it was brother Jamie who salvaged some success for the family in the doubles division.

But, things could have been very different.

Jamie Murray teamed up with Martina Hingis, becoming victorious against fellow brit Heather Watson and Finland’s Henri Kontinen.

However, it could have been a final watched from the sofa for Jamie Murray as it was a single text from Martina that persuaded him to join her.

Mixed doubles became dominated by the two, with one Murray becoming a champion in his own right. This victory marked 10 years after he won the mixed Wimbledon title alongside Jelena Jankovic.

“If it was anyone else would I have said no? Probably, yeah”, said Murray, who saw his brother knocked out of the singles quarter final, prior to his victory.

“It’s just a great opportunity for me to play and to really feel like you could do good things on the court and have a great shot to win.

“The doubles for me is obviously my biggest goal of the year. It’s going to take something pretty special to maybe potentially take my eye off the ball with it.

“But it was a great opportunity. She’s won everything, won so many mixed as well. I knew I do well with her.

“It was an easy decision,” concluded Murray as he walked home a champion, on Sunday.

So, what was the text that sealed the deal from Murray?

“Hi, Jamie, want to play with me?” said Hingis, in attempt to get the Scot on her side.

“You’ve just got to keep it simple. That’s what matters.

“I was hoping for a yes, definitely. I’m not used to ‘no’. I don't take ‘no’ as an answer pretty much. He left me hanging overnight. I was like ‘Oh my God, did he read it? Did he not?’ but it worked out definitely,” described Hingis.

What an interesting tale in the story so great for the Scot, and his partner Hingis.

Will the two reignite the flame next year? That is for 2018 to tell.
