The off-season is a very important time for Premier League clubs.

Those challenging for the title use the transfer window to boost their squads ahead of the upcoming season.

Already this summer we've seen a number of big deals. Manchester United landed Romelu Lukaku from Everton for £75 million.

Arsenal smashed their previous club record transfer fee by signing Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon for over £52 million.

Manchester City made Kyle Walker the most expensive Englishman ever, paying Tottenham £50 million for his services.

Reigning champions Chelsea have signed Antonio Rudiger and Tiemoue Bakayoko, with a striker expected to join them soon.

Finally, Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool has signed Mohamed Salah and Dominic Solanke, but he also is rumoured to want Naby Keita and Virgil van Dijk to move to Anfield.

As well as signing new players, clubs also have the opportunity to train and work on tactics ahead of the first game in August.

Pre-season allows squads to train and play with the pressure off for a month or so before returning to intense domestic action.

The top clubs usually jet off around the world for friendlies against some of Europe's biggest teams and this year is no different.

Chelsea and Arsenal will play in the Far East, while United and City battle in the United States.

Liverpool began their preparation almost a week ago and have played Tranmere Rovers and Wigan Athletic already.

They're now in Hong Kong and Klopp prepares his side to face Crystal Palace and West Brom or Leicester over the next few days.

Ahead of these matches, the Reds manager has revealed that he's been particularly impressed with striker Daniel Sturridge.

The Englishman has struggled with injuries throughout his career and has never played more than 30 games in a Premier League season, despite being in the top flight for 10 years.

However, the next campaign could be very different for the 27-year-old, as Klopp believes he's in the best shape of his life.

“Daniel could be part of the full pre-season so far, which is a very important thing and not just good for him,” he revealed, as per Goal.

“It's the best condition since I'm here. OK, I came in October 2015 and Daniel, I think, was probably injured then."

Klopp also suggested that last year's European Championships didn't help the striker. But this year, he's sharper than ever.

“Last pre-season was after a tournament and a short break. This year he has had a proper break and is in a good physical shape absolutely.”

Sturridge showed so much promise in the 2013/14 season, forming a brilliant partnership with Luis Suarez.

He was the second highest scorer in the league behind his teammate, just missing out on the golden boot with 21 goals.

Since then, injuries have meant he's struggled to hold down a place in the Liverpool team, but judging by Klopp's words, he could be back to his best this season.
