WWE has made a change to their plans for a key championship match at SummerSlam.

The company typically loads up these shows as it is still referred as one of the big four PPV (pay-per-view) events of the year. You have WrestleMania, Survivor Series, Royal Rumble, and of course SummerSlam.

As seen in the previous events over the years, WWE brings back big stars such as The Undertaker and Triple H to work SummerSlam. Even though WWE has decided to make it a four-hour show, the company delivers with great matches and surprises every now and again.

We are little over a month away from the event and WWE is slowly but surely rolling out storylines for matches that will take place at the event. That includes the Raw Women’s Championship, which is held by Alexa Bliss.

It was originally reported that the title would be defended in a Fatal 4 Way match at the event. However, that is no longer the case. Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that Bliss would defend not defend the title in a multiple person match, but rather it will be a singles match. Now the big question remains, who will be Bliss’ opponent at the event?

It was announced this week that Bayley, who holds two wins over Bliss over the last two weeks, and Sasha Banks would compete in a #1 contender’s match on next week’s episode of Monday Night Raw to determine who would challenge Bliss for her title at SummerSlam. Bliss has feuded with both Superstars this year.

There are rumblings online that WWE may book Bliss against her former best friend and now arch rival Nia Jax at the event. It would’ve made sense for WWE to book these women in a Fatal 4 Way match at the event.

With WWE going the singles match route, it would appear that whoever loses between Bayley and Banks would face Jax at the event or there will be a multi-woman match added to the card. WWE has done this in nearly every SummerSlam event in the last decade.

The SummerSlam pay-per-view event takes place on August 20th at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York and will air on the WWE Network and some traditional pay-per-view outlets. Both Raw and SmackDown rosters will be featured on the card. As of this writing, no matches have been officially announced for the card.
