The latest in Jack Wilshere’s wretched list of injuries was a hairline fracture to his left fibula, suffered in Bournemouth’s 4-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in April.

It ended the 25-year-old’s season and prevented him from joining his Arsenal teammates on their pre-season tours of Australia and China.

Wilshere’s latest setback even led to Arsene Wenger expressing his sorrow for the player once dubbed ‘the future of England’ by Xavi.

“I’m sad about this injury because Jack is a great player with a great football brain,” Wenger said, per The Guardian.

“His career has been stopped by many injuries. At the top level the most important thing is consistency. When a player has been out for a while, the game is of such an intensity that it always takes you a while to get your confidence back.

“You have to be consistently present. When you look at all the players who are at the top level in the world like Cristiano Ronaldo, these guys play 50 or 60 games a year. They have the luck of not being stopped by injuries.

“You’re always sad when a guy of Jack’s quality is stopped by problems.”

Arsenal have made a decision on Wilshere

Wilshere’s contract expires in 2018 and, unlike with Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, the Gunners aren’t desperate to offer him an extension.

In fact, the Mail are reporting that the club are ready to let him leave this summer.

According to Sami Mokbel of the Daily Mail, Wilshere doesn’t feature in Wenger’s plans for next season and Arsenal are listening to offers.

One has already been received from Italian side Sampdoria, who made a £6 million bid for the midfielder. Wilshere wants to consider his options before he chooses his next club, though.

What could Arsenal do?

Should Arsenal fail to receive a suitable proposition, Wilshere will see out the remaining 12 months of his contract and leave on a free in 2018. But the north London side would prefer to avoid that scenario.

There is a chance that Wilshere signs a new deal - but that would only be done to protect the playmaker’s falling value.

If he doesn’t leave the club, Wilshere could find opportunities to impress in the Europa League.

Arsenal have enough at CM

Talent has never been a problem for Wilshere so if he can prove to Wenger that he can stay healthy, we could be discussing his new contract extension at the Emirates Stadium one year from now.

But, as things stand, the club are looking to ship him before the transfer window closes next month.

The presence of Granit Xhaka, Aaron Ramsey, Francis Coquelin and Mohamed Elneny, plus Santi Cazorla’s expected return in 2017, means Arsenal aren’t lacking in centre-midfield options.
