James Rodriguez's move to Bayern is one of the summer's most intriguing transfers.

The Colombian was supposedly going to leave Real Madrid in a big-money deal, but he's actually proved to be quite the bargain for the Bavarians.

Carlo Ancelotti has brought his former Galactico in on a two-year loan deal with the option to buy for just £31million.

If the 26-year-old can recapture the form that catapulted him into the spotlight at the 2014 World Cup, then what an addition he'll be to the Bundesliga champions' attack.

The only man associated with Bayern who might not be so pleased about his arrival is Thomas Muller.

Naturally, James is going to be in direct competition with the German international, whose decline over the past couple of years has been well-documented.

The 25-year-old scored just five leagues goals last season to follow up on a thoroughly disappointing Euro 2016 campaign.

Muller doesn't have to go

Ancelotti insists he can accommodate both players, telling reporters in Shanghai:

"Of course we didn't buy James to replace Thomas Muller. If you think this way you can think he will replace Thiago [Alcantara] because he can play in the centre. He can play on the right or the left and so he can replace [Arjen] Robben or [Franck] Ribery."

That won't be the end of rumours linking Muller with the Allianz exit.

Bild report that four top European clubs are monitoring his situation as they still rate the World Cup winner highly.

Four clubs want him

Juventus are undeterred by his recent problems, while Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool would all like to bring him to the Premier League.

Jurgen Klopp is particularly keen to link up with his compatriot.

Don't read too much into this, Liverpool fans, but the club will be in Munich in early August anyway for the Audi Cup, which would offer the perfect chance to negotiate.

Muller is under contract until the summer of 2021. Ultimately, it looks as if it's up to the player to decide whether his time in southern Germany is up.

If he does choose to leave, it looks as if he'll have no problems finding a top club to take him on.
