Kevin Owens has been extremely successful since being brought up to the main roster in WWE.

After making a huge impact on NXT, winning the top championship just months after being signed to the brand, Owens made his main roster debut when he confronted and attacked then-WWE United States Champion John Cena, who he entered into a great rivalry with for a number of weeks. He then went on to defeat Ryback to capture the WWE Intercontinental Championship.

He then captured the Universal Championship on Monday Night RAW after winning a Fatal Four Way match for the vacant strap, thanks to some help from Triple H. He soon dropped that strap to the returning Goldberg at the Fastlane pay-per-view (PPV) before defeating Chris Jericho to win the United States Championship the following month.

Owens had been reigning as United States Champion for the past few months, dubbing himself the new "Face Of America" before a shocking turn of events took place at a House Show from Madison Square Garden earlier this month (July 7, 2017.).

"KO" dropped his United States strap to former WWE Champion AJ Styles at the Live Event, which is an extreme rarity in the WWE world. Nowadays you hardly see titles change hands on RAW or SmackDown Live, as they are typically reserved for PPV events.

Owens will get his rematch against Styles for the United States Title at the Battleground PPV this weekend in Philadelphia. There has been much speculation as to why the WWE decided to take the title off Owens so quickly at the Live Event, and one of those reasons is because Styles is on the brink of releasing the first WWE DVD of his career.

According to The Dirty Sheets podcast (via WrestleZone), however, it seems as though the major reason WWE removed the title from Owens is because of the sudden influx of anti-American characters on WWE TV. With WWE Champion Jinder Mahal, Rusev, and now Owens portraying anti-America gimmicks, as Owens, who is a Canadian, portrayed himself  as the new "Face Of America," it all became too much.

Rusev is set to face John Cena in a Flag Match at Battleground, while the very anti-America WWE Champion Jinder Mahal is set to defend his title inside the Punjabi Prison match against Randy Orton.
