Peter Crouch has proven himself to be one of football’s funniest characters in recent years. He’s given us the robot, admitted he’d still be a virgin if he wasn’t a professional footballer and went viral last month after posting a photo of himself with two giraffes and writing: “Summer for me is about time with family.”It’s no surprise that he was crowned the funniest man in British sport in 2010.

It’s also not a surprise to learn that Crouch will host his own radio show on Radio X for a fortnight, starting next Monday.

He’s even promised some stories and interesting guests.

“I love Radio X and the music the station plays so I’m excited about being in the hot seat,” the Stoke striker said. “I have a few stories I’m looking forward to sharing and some visitors I’m looking forward to welcoming to the studio.”

Crouch responded to a fan's joke

Some will be quick to criticise Crouch’s appearance on the mic but as he showed on Twitter on Thursday morning, he’s ready to deal with any negative comments that come his way.

The former England international received a tweet from a fan who made a joke about his appearance and goals tally.

“I was working in Burger King when @petercrouch asked me for 2 whoppers.
I said ‘okay, you're handsome & you'll score 20 goals this season’,” the fan said.

Crouch's response

Crouch has probably read worse in his career but he still felt compelled to reply.

“Yes Matthew. Your bio says you like dr who, lord of the rings and country walks. Next time I'm in the switch lets hook up. 😒,” an unamused Crouch said.

Check out some of his best tweets through the years, including the time he compared his figure to Cristiano Ronaldo’s.

At the age of 36, it’s time for Crouch to start planning for life after football. It could be that radio, or another form of broadcasting, is his next gig.

Matt Deverson, managing editor of Radio X, is excited to hear what the former Tottenham striker delivers during his two-week stint behind the mic.

“As well as being one of the best loved footballers of his generation, Peter Crouch is well known for his passion for music and legendary sense of humour,” Deverson said, per the Mirror.

"We can’t wait for him to get behind the mic for what I’m sure will be a hugely entertaining couple of weeks.”
