It’s now two years since Jordan Henderson was appointed Liverpool’s new captain following the departure of Steven Gerrard.Filling the void left by the Reds’ legend must have been a daunting task for Henderson, aged 25 at the time, but he duly stepped up to the plate.Expressing his pride, Henderson told Liverpool’s website: "I'm absolutely delighted and proud. It is a great honour and a huge privilege to be named as the captain of this football club."When Steven [Gerrard] wasn't in the team last season, I tried to do the best I could when I stepped in and took the armband. Now I'll be looking to carry that on and continue to grow as a captain."I'll look to give my best all of the time, put the team firmly first and try to give them - or help them with - whatever they need from me."

Henderson's injury problems

Although Henderson leads by example when he plays, his last two seasons have been disrupted by various injury problems.

He made 27 appearances in all competitions last term and 26 the season before that.

As a result it’s a big season coming up for Henderson, who is undoubtedly a class act.
