Jose Mourinho revealed this week that he intends to buy two more players before the summer transfer window shuts.

But the Manchester United boss realises that he may only be able to sign one of his intended targets.

"Everton started really strong in the market without the Lukaku money," Mourinho told ESPN. "AC Milan, without selling players, are buying non-stop, so it depends on the moment, the objective, maybe on new owners.

"What I will say is that, a long time ago, we thought about four players to strengthen our squad, but it is really hard to do it. If we do the third and forget the fourth, I would be quite happy with that because I know it is difficult.

"At the moment we have Lukaku and Lindelof, two players I know well. I worked with one before and the other is from the Portuguese championship, which I follow every weekend.”

Monaco are playing hardball over Fabinho fee

A move for Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic has dragged on for weeks. And Man United fans were getting excited about the possibility of AS Monaco’s Fabinho arriving, the rumours were that incessant.

According to the Independent, Mourinho is ready to forget about the Monaco right-back and turn his attentions to an alternative.

The newspaper claims that the French champions ‘have proven exceptionally tough negotiators’, and there difficult approach is no doubt enhanced by the fact that Bernardo Silva and Tiemoue Bakayoko have already left this summer.

Mourinho is eyeing a different right-back

So Man United have started looking into the possibility of signing Serge Aurier of Paris Saint-Germain.

It’s claimed that Aurier, who has courted controversy at the Parc des Princes, could be signed for £25 million, significantly lower than the £40m Man United might have to pay to sign Fabinho.

Man United hopes of signing him have been boosted

Man United’s chances of signing the 24-year-old are boosted by the fact that he has told Unai Emery that he wants to leave PSG, according to the PSG boss himself.

“I spoke with Serge to tell him that I wanted him to stay,” Emery told L’Equipe, per the Manchester Evening News.

“He told me that he wants to leave and he preferred staying in Paris to prepare for his departure.”

Controversial character

Antonio Valencia impressed at right-back last season but it’s no surprise that Mourinho wants to add depth to the position.

Although the Ivorian does come with some red flags.

Last year, Aurier was suspended by PSG after calling teammate Angel di Maria a “clown” and appearing to use homophobic language to insult then-manager Laurent Blanc on social media app Periscope.

"I apologise to the coach and the supporters,” Aurier said, per BBC Sport. “I accept all consequences and can only thank Laurent Blanc for all that he has done for me at PSG."

In 2015, the right-back was banned for three European matches after he insulted referee Bjorn Kuipers, who had sent Zlatan Ibrahimovic off against Chelsea.
