As soon as Manchester United won the race for Romelu Lukaku’s signature earlier this month it seemed a question of when, rather than if, Chelsea would turn to Alvaro Morata. The Spanish striker was considering his future at Real Madrid, with Zinedine Zidane expected to stick with Karim Benzema as his first-choice centre-forward for the 2017-18 campaign, and reportedly open to a move to England.Furthermore, he had a great relationship with Chelsea boss Antonio Conte after working under the Italian coach at Juventus.Conte had decided to get rid of the troublesome Diego Costa, who will re-join Atletico Madrid, and was on the hunt for a new top striker to fill the void.Lukaku may or may not have been Conte’s preference, but Morata is clearly an excellent alternative. That Morata has cost Chelsea almost £20 million less than United paid Everton for Lukaku means many football fans feel the Blues have got the better value-for-money deal.Morata becomes Chelsea’s fourth summer signing following the arrivals of Willy Caballero, Antonio Rudiger and Tiemoue Bakayoko.

When Morata and Rudiger met in 2013

However, it won’t be the first time that Morata and Rudiger have come face to face.

Back in 2013, at the Under-21 European Championships in Israel, Morata and Rudiger were on opposite teams as Spain played Germany in the group stages.

Spain won 1-0 and it was Morata who scored the winning goal in the 86th minute.

But it wasn’t your average Morata goal. He roasted the aforementioned Rudiger, displaying great pace and power to get past the German defender.
