Raw Tag Team Champion Sheamus has opened up on his friendship with Cesaro.

The two Superstars were put together by WWE officials in 2016 to help elevate the tag team division on the Raw brand. On December 18th at Roadblock: End of the Line pay-per-view event, Sheamus and Cesaro defeated The New Day to win the Raw Tag Team Championship.

This marked Sheamus' first tag team championship in his WWE career. They would later beat The Hardy Boyz for their second reign as tag team champions.

Sheamus and Cesaro recently appeared on Talk is Jericho (transcript courtesy of Ringside News) to talk about various topics including their careers and friendship.

During the podcast, Sheamus talked about how they got close with each other after their tag team came together and how they found great mutual respect for each other.

“We had a lot of respect for each other. I don’t think we were super close or anything, but we’re both Europeans, kind of the same background, and we get here. From wrestling each other enough, we both definitely had a lot of respect.”

“Do you know what I mean? I think there has always been a competition between us and that’s a great thing because you always want to try to one up each other.”

The former WWE Champion also talked about how their characters have evolved their relationship through the time that they have been together.

“It has definitely been an evolution from when we started, but even when we were tagging, there was that thing of like the odd couple kind of fighting each other, and we wanted to push it. We didn’t get the opportunity to push it.”

“We didn’t get the opportunity to push it as much as we wanted because you have a segment and it’s taken away. Do you know what I mean? So like, people were enjoying it. Do you remember the boo/yaa stuff? The boo/yah stuff was great.”

Although they are coming off a feud with The Hardy Boyz, WWE has yet to put them in a program for their championship defense at SummerSlam. It will be interesting to see who they face at the event, which takes place next month. The Hardy Boyz are currently in a program with The Revival.”

It’s possible that The Revival is next in line for a tag team title match. Time will tell what WWE ends up doing with the Raw Tag Team Titles for the second biggest event of the year for the company.
