It was a historic night in Houston as Manchester United and Manchester City played out their first ever Manchester Derby on foreign soil.

Of course, that was supposed to happen in Beijing last summer but due to torrential rain, it was cancelled.

But there were no such problems this time in the USA.

And it was Jose Mourinho’s side that earned early bragging rights, running out 2-0 winners against Pep Guardiola’s squad.

And United fans would have been delighted to see Romelu Lukaku scoring his second goal in just three days to open the scoring.

New City goalkeeper completely misjudged Paul Pogba’s forward pass leaving Lukaku able to nod the ball past him. But the Belgian still had plenty of work to do from a tight angle with two City defenders running back towards the goal-line. However, he showed everyone exactly why he’s worth £75 million with a perfect finish.

Just a few minutes later, the Red Devils were 2-0 up.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s pass freed Marcus Rashford down the right - with makeshift left-back Fernandinho struggling - and the 19-year-old made no mistake with a fantastic strike.

Mourinho on the transfer market

After the match, Mourinho explained how he was happy with the work Ed Woodward has done in the transfer window so far, but is still expecting more signings before the start of the season.

“The credit for Lukaku and Lindelof to be here on time is not mine but Ed Woodward’s and I thank him for that fantastic work to bring us two very important players," he said.

“But we need a bit more and when you see the other teams in the Premier League, the way they get players and good players and you see the Champions buy three fantastic experienced players.

“City go to the market and Liverpool and West Ham gets Joe Hart, Chicharito and Arnautovic, West Ham wow, they play to win the Premier League too.

“So the teams are fantastic in the market and I’m waiting for a bit more.

“Other teams can do it also, is not a critic or not understanding the difficulty of the situation.

“I understand the difficulty of the situation.

“The market is open until August 31 but I like to work from day one.”
