It was always going to be a difficult season for Paul Pogba after becoming the world’s most expensive player.Manchester United paid £89 million for the midfielder and all eyes were on the Frenchman to see if he could live up his price-tag.Every performance was scrutinised and there was plenty of pressure on him to lead United to glory. While he showed glimpses of brilliance, you’d expect more from the most expensive player in the world. But we could see that this season.Everyone is starting to forget about Pogba’s transfer fee - especially with United paying £75 million for Romelu Lukaku. This could help the 24-year-old concentrate on his game, rather than worrying about his price-tag.And it already looks as though we’re seeing a better Pogba 12 months after his arrival. He showed that against Manchester City during their 2-0 friendly victory. In the first-half, he produced an inch-perfect pass for Romelu Lukaku to open the scoring.

Then, in the second-half, he turned on the style.

Marcus Rashford had doubled the Red Devils’ lead shortly after Lukaku’s goal, meaning the victory was safe heading into the latter stages of the second-half.

Cue Pogba bringing out his party tricks.

Confronted by both Leroy Sane and Fernandinho on the right wing, Pogba shimmied before beating both players down the line. He then whipped in a cross, which was eventually cleared.

While United may have ran out 2-0 winners, it seems Jose Mourinho is still looking to strengthen his squad.

Victor Lindelof (£30m) and Lukaku (£75m) may have already arrived but the Portuguese boss wants more.

Mourinho on the transfer window

“The credit for Lukaku and Lindelof to be here on time is not mine but Ed Woodward’s and I thank him for that fantastic work to bring us two very important players," he said after the match.

“But we need a bit more and when you see the other teams in the Premier League, the way they get players and good players and you see the Champions buy three fantastic experienced players.

“City go to the market and Liverpool and West Ham gets Joe Hart, Chicharito and Arnautovic, West Ham wow, they play to win the Premier League too.

“So the teams are fantastic in the market and I’m waiting for a bit more.

“Other teams can do it also, is not a critic or not understanding the difficulty of the situation.

“I understand the difficulty of the situation.

“The market is open until August 31 but I like to work from day one.”
