Diego Costa’s Chelsea career is almost certainly over.

The Spaniard has enjoyed an incredibly successful three year spell at Stamford Bridge yet has never been too far from controversy. It seems the forward’s attitude has finally ruffled one feather too many.

As a result, it didn’t come as much of a surprise when it was revealed at the end of the season that Antonio Conte didn’t see Costa in his plans anymore.

The two had come to blows in January and it was mooted that the forward could make a switch to China, notably Tianjin Quanjian. The 28-year-old saved face for four more months, procuring the Premier League title but patience eventually waned.

This is in spite of the fact Costa amassed an impressive 59 goals in 120 appearances across his time with the Blues. He could also boast two league titles and a League Cup.

However, his impending departure is now abundantly clear and such confidence can be derived from the imminent arrival of Alvaro Morata. Chelsea are within touching distance of signing the forward from Real Madrid for approximately £70 million.

It’s a case of out with the old and in with the new. For all of Costa’s goal scoring prowess, Morata is four years his junior and comes with half the temper.

In the Blues all but confirming their replacement for Costa, their once treasured forward is free to leave and link up with his beloved Atletico Madrid. The 28-year-old plied his trade there previously between 2010 and 2014.

And while this move seems extremely likely too, any skeptics have been handed an extra nugget of evidence via Filipe Luis’ Instagram, naturally. Take a look below:

A pretty innocent pre-season selfie with three teammates, right? Until you notice that Diego Costa, rather bizarrely and tellingly, is tagged in the photo as well.

Especially when you consider the caption simply reads ‘pre-season’ it is perhaps suggesting that Costa will very well be joining the Atletico stars soon. It would, after all, see the forward reunite with Luis once again.

The pair propelled Atletico to the 2014 Champions League final, before both switching to Chelsea that year. Luis struggled for game time in England, though, and did what Costa looks set to do this year but in 2015.

An Instagram post is, of course, just an Instagram post but with a move looming, it seems the kind of jovial toying that all but confirms the impending switch. Premier League referees - rejoice.
