It’s been a frustrating summer for Liverpool so far. While they’ve signed Mohamed Salah for £34 million and snapped up Dominic Solanke from Chelsea, it appears they’re facing a losing battle for their two main transfer targets - Virgil van Dijk and Naby Keita.Last month, it seemed the Reds had won the race for Southampton defender Van Dijk but after being reported for their apparent illegal approach, they soon apologised and withdrew their interest. While Jurgen Klopp hasn’t revealed that Liverpool will definitely go back in for Van Dijk, reports suggest they’re still interested in signing the Dutchman. As for Keita, the Anfield-outfit have had a £66 million bid rejected for the RB Leipzig midfielder as the Bundesliga side remain incredibly stubborn. But Liverpool now have another problem on their hands, it seems.Just when they were struggling to sign their transfer targets, they now face another fight to keep hold of their star player.Barcelona have seen a £72 million bid rejected by the club as they seek a replacement for Neymar - who is reportedly close to a sensational move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Klopp on Coutinho

And Klopp explained how there’s simply no way he’s willing to allow the Brazilian to leave.

“Yes [Coutinho is not for sale] but that’s not since this morning or yesterday, it’s not been any different," he said.

"Phil is a very important player for us. He’s trying to get back his rhythm but there’s no doubt about his quality. He’s very smart both offensively and defensively. The nice news for us is that he’s still young. He has improved a lot since I’ve been here and he can still improve a lot.

“I’m not surprised that any club is interested in players at Liverpool. The very important message is that we are not a selling club and that’s how it is."

Liverpool fans have heard it all before

So Coutinho is staying at Liverpool then, right?

Well, not exactly.

Liverpool fans have heard it all before with the likes of Luis Suarez and Raheem Sterling leaving the club in recent years.

And, back in 2011, Fernando Torres was allowed to join rivals Chelsea in a £50 million deal.

And, just three days before the deal, the club sent out a tweet explaining how Torres would not be sold. It read: “LFC insist Torres is not for sale.”

Seventy-two hours later and Torres was a Chelsea player.

That very tweet has been retweeted plenty of times since the Coutinho reports emerged as Liverpool fans fear a Torres-like scenario will occur.

Just because Klopp is saying Coutinho isn't for sale, that certainly isn't the final word - especially when Barca are sniffing around.
