Jurgen Klopp has brought some decent players to Liverpool since his arrival in October 2015.Indeed, the Reds’ transfer policy had become something of a joke - remember the infamous ‘Liverpool transfer committee’, responsible for signing Iago Aspas, Rickie Lambert and Lazar Markovic? - before the German was hired. But the arrivals of Sadio Mane, Joel Matip and Georginio Wijnaldum in 2016 and Mohamed Salah and Dominic Salah this year have helped supporters forget about those miserable recruitments. You only need to take one look at Liverpool’s squad to understand why the club are back in the Champions League.Philippe Coutinho is the standout star, and he is supported by Roberto Firmino, Adam Lallana and Klopp’s aforementioned signings. While Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea are the obvious favourites for the 2017-18 Premier League title, you can’t forget about Liverpool.
Klopp: 'We have to work, not to dream'
Klopp believes his team have a long way to go before they are lifting the trophy but he’s happy to let the fans dream.
“I am really positive but in the moment we have to work, not to dream,” he said, per the Mirror.
“If someone wants to dream no problem I don’t want to stop this but it’s a long way to go.”
Klopp had no idea about one of his signings
Klopp has added Andrew Robertson to his squad, the left-back arriving in a £10 million deal from Hull City, but there is one signing he made this summer where he was relying on the reports from his scouts.
The former Borussia Dortmund boss has admitted he had no idea who Dominic Solanke was before signing him from Chelsea.
“The only thing I can say is the first time I heard that Dominic wants to come, I was really happy about that,” Klopp said, per the Mirror.
“But it was difficult to find footage about him. It was a long time since he played so it was hard.
“The only thing we could get was a little bit of him playing in Holland (on loan for Vitesse Arnhem) and a bit of under-20s or under-19s. That’s not the best footage.
“Everyone in England knew him but I had no idea about him. I started to learn more and more and I trust the guys around us, the scouts, so I said: 'Let’s do it.'
“I've seen a lot of skilled boys in my life and he looks like a nice project.
“Everything is really good, really clear. He’s extremely football smart and focused. You see the movement.”
Solanke's transfer fee will be confirmed by a tribunal, but if they end up paying Chelsea the reported fee of £3m then it's a quality piece of business.
