The WWE's off-shoot comedy wrestling show, Southpaw Regional Wrestling, is sure to have an amazing second season.
The first season was a surprising bit of genius from the WWE and talent, featuring some hilarious moments and creative freedom that let wrestlers like John Cena do what they do best: Entertain. After finding some serious success in the first go-round, the second trip to the South should be even greater.
The WWE's decision to air the "found" tapes of the goofy wrestling promotion that once-was, based around the year 1987, was met with applaud. It's something out of the norm that fans got behind because it was new, witty and tasteful. Season 2 has plenty to live up to, and it's already sounding like it's shaping up well with one superstar confirming his involvement.
The Phenomenal One AJ Styles has confirmed that he'll be taking on a new role, confirming it himself on the Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast. Not only that, Styles even gave some information on the character he'll be portraying, which sounds as ridiculous as you'd expect for from SRW.
"I just did something recently that is on the top of my list of very funny things, Southpaw Regional Wrestling. Oh my God… I don't know if you know about Southpaw, of course, but they've got a new sponsor for the next season, so… He's a big sponsor. He's the biggest sponsor they've got," Styles said.
"He's a car salesman. Big sponsor in Louisiana. He does have a name. Are you sure you want me to spoil it right now? You want the name of the guy... Okay. Malibu Al. Yeah, it's going to continue to run. It's going to be a great new season," Styles said.
Styles, who became a professional wrestling star because of his in-ring work, went on to explain how he became more comfortable cutting promos and working microphones, a key in his transition into becoming Malibu Al.
"I think that now it's just going... alright, what would AJ Styles say? Who is he right now? You really have to find out who you are, and when you dial that in and you figure it out, that makes it a lot easier. Then you put it in your own words instead of trying to say someone else's," Style said.
With Styles confirmed for Southpaw Regional Wrestling, who knows what other WWE talent may find its way to the best wrestling promotion that never happened in the 80's.
