Back in May, after his win over Wladimir Klitschko, Anthony Joshua was invited to Floyd Mayweather’s boxing gym by the man himself.

"I've got the utmost respect but you know we've got to bring him over to the Mayweather boxing club," the American said, per Sky Sports.

“We're going to tighten that defence up real, real sharp. Real, real slick.”

And where did Joshua find himself this week? Mayweather’s boxing club in Las Vegas.

Unfortunately for the British heavyweight champion, Mayweather probably didn’t have time to offer some tips as he prepares for his own fight against Conor McGregor next month.

Mayweather and McGregor will go head-to-head in the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas on August 26 in a fight that has already attracted worldwide interest.

Unsurprisingly, Joshua is backing the American to do the business.

“I’m Mayweather, I’m a fan of the TMT camp,” Joshua told Dontae’s Boxing Nation.

Joshua reacted to McGregor's comments

Joshua also reacted to the insults McGregor and Mayweather hurled at one another during last week’s promotional world tour, and he’s not impressed by the UFC’s comments to his 40-year-old opponent.

In Toronto on day two of the tour, the Notorious poked fun at the claim that Mayweather can’t read.

“What’re you doing with a school bag on stage? You can’t even read!,” he said.

Mayweather was also called a “baldy t***t” by McGregor.

Joshua: 'You can't talk s*** to a champion'

There were worse insults - McGregor was accused of using racist comments - but you get the idea.

And Joshua believes McGregor was wrong to disrespect Mayweather.

"You can't talk s*** to a champion like that. Mayweather has done it from the amateurs, people forget he's done it from like ground zero,” the IBF, WBA (Super) and IBO heavyweight champion added.

"Let's not forget, everyone only remembers Mayweather for his last 10 fights, he's had it hard. But it's entertainment isn't it and he knows how to sell a fight.

“But you can't f*** with Mayweather, he's done it done it from the ground up."

Watch: Joshua talks Mayweather v McGregor

Joshua shouldn’t have expected anything less from McGregor, though. The Irishman has developed a reputation as one of the best trash-talkers in the fighting industry.

It’s worth revisiting the insults he hurled at Jose Aldo before their fight in 2015.

McGregor knocked Aldo out inside 13 seconds, and it’s hard not to get a sense that much of the damage was already done before the contest.
