With just two weeks to go until Usain Bolt's last ever race at the World Athletics Championships, Friday's Diamond League meeting in Monaco took on even greater significance.

So far in 2017, Bolt has won all of the races where he has competed but his times have been unflattering and in Ostrava last month, it was clear the Jamaican was still suffering from a back problem.

Nevertheless, his display on Friday night was much more like the Usain Bolt of old and the 30-year-old sent a timely reminder that he will still be the man to beat in London next month.

Before the race, much of the talk had been about the field of opponents Bolt would be facing but neutrals were still given a competitive spectacle - even with the absence of Andre De Grasse.

As you can see in the video below, the triple Olympic champion initially got off to a sluggish start in Monaco.

However, as has been the case so many times in the past, it was in the last 25 metres where he really kicked on and took the lead.

Although it looked like there was still some more gas in the tank, it was enough for Bolt to register his fastest time of the year and his first sub-10 second finish (9.95) too.

Isiah Young from America also impressed with a second place finish and a time of 9.98 seconds meanwhile South African Akani Simbine (10.02) came third.

Brit CJ Ujah also ran 10.02 but was adjudged to have finished fourth.

Elsewhere at the Diamond League meeting, Wayde van Niekerk continued his fine form by winning the 400m with a time of 43.73 seconds.

The South African, who broke the world record for 300m last month, was pushed all the way by Isaac Makwala (43.84) and even threw up after claiming the victory.
