Liverpool will take on Leicester City this afternoon in the final of the Premier League Asia Trophy. It’s a nothing competition, of course, but victory over the Foxes will leave Jurgen Klopp confident that his team is in good shape heading into the new season.Yet the German is aware that, in a competition made up of Premier League teams, there are some aspects of Liverpool’s tactics that he just can’t show off during the matches.“If I would be poker player, I would say maybe we should not show all our cards,” he said before Wednesday’s 2-0 win over Crystal Palace, per the Premier League’s website.“It’s not about hiding things; we cannot hide anything anymore so it’s about playing.“You have to use these games like the most intense training session you could ever plan, because that’s what we want."

What Klopp said to Liverpool fans

While the trip to Hong Kong presents a good opportunity for Klopp to get an idea of how new signings Mohamed Salah and Dominic Solanke will fit into his team, the absence of Sadio Mane and Emre Can has prevented him from playing the team that will likely start each week once the competitive stuff gets underway.

Still, there are some things he wants to work on, as evidenced by a clip from Liverpool’s open training session.

Around 2,500 were in attendance as Klopp put his players through their paces in the 7,000-seater Mong Kok Stadium on Friday.

And such was the excitement inside the stadium that Klopp had to tell the fans to be quiet.

The German was clearly unable to get across his instructions due to the volume of the noise. And rival fans can’t stop laughing on social media.

It follows a video that went viral of Liverpool players refusing to sign autographs before boarding a bus.

Defending set-pieces session

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez revealed that the focus of the session was defending and breaking from set-pieces.

“We were split into two sides as we’ve been playing a different team each half in the games as you know,” Gomez said, per Goal.

“There was a lot of tactical aspects to it. We did set-pieces and broke off into on counter-attacks to focus on the switch of play and transitions, which as is a key aspect for us since we counter-press.

“We have to give ourselves protection as we jump in so it’s about getting into good habits.”

We’ll find out later today if Klopp was eventually able to get his message across.
