After releasing 28-goal Zlatan Ibrahimovic, it was clear for everyone to see that Manchester United needed to bring in a new centre-forward this summer.

As you'd expect, Man Utd were linked with several names, from new Chelsea forward Alvaro Morata to Andrea Belotti, but the player who they eventually got was Romelu Lukaku.

The big Belgian joined in a massive deal worth an initial £75 million to reunite with manager Jose Mourinho on the back of registering 71 goals in 133 games for Everton.

Lukaku made his United debut on their pre-season tour of America against LA Galaxy and followed that up by scoring twice in as many games against Real Salt Lake and Manchester City.

City playmaker Kevin de Bruyne also featured in the first Manchester derby to take place outside of the UK, which United won 2-0, and he's explained why his "incredible" compatriot will be a big success at Old Trafford.

KdB on "incredible" Lukaku

De Bruyne, who regularly plays with Lukaku for the Belgium national team, has no doubts that United's new signing will live up to the hype, labelling him as one of the best strikers in the world.

"I think he (Lukaku) will do very well," the 26-year-old attacking midfielder told reporters, via Goal. "Everyone knows what his qualities are and he will do what he has to do.

“There’s a lot said about these big transfers, people mock him and other players on social media. You know it’s there, but you just can’t care about that.

"You just have to do your job, and I think he’ll score 20 to 25 goals for United a season and that will speak for itself."

De Bruyne continued: “If you see his ratio of goals, it’s incredible. He’s one of the best in the world and what is he, 24? You can say that about him at that age.

“Obviously he has his way of playing‚ don’t compare him to a Lionel Messi. He’s a big, physical guy and can be awesome."

Will Lukaku be a success at United?

The classy De Bruyne is more than aware of the pressure surrounding big-money moves, having joined Man City from Wolfsburg in 2015 for a hefty £55 million.

Like Lukaku, he also endured a disappointing spell at Chelsea, but he's been exceptional since then and assisted more Premier League goals (18) than anyone else in 2016-17.

Lukaku, who scored 25 league goals last season, is by no means the finished product as a number nine, and playing Champions League football for the first time in his career is something that he'll have to get used to very quickly.

That said, if he can be the focal point of an attack which includes players like Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, whilst continuing to bang in the goals, United could enjoy a successful 2017-18 campaign.
