The Los Angeles Clippers are undergoing a summer of change after seeing some key players depart in free agency.

The most notable departure was All-Star point guard Chris Paul who opted to join the Houston Rockets.

Another understated but important loss was that of shooting guard J.J. Redick, who signed a one-year $23 million deal with the Philadelphia 76ers.

The franchise, however, was able to re-sign Blake Griffin to a huge five-year deal but question marks have been raised about why Paul and Redick decided to bolt.

It has been reported on multiple occasions in recent years that the Clippers had chemistry issues both on and off the floor that were having a detrimental effect on their results.

In a special documentary released on the Uninterrupted network, Redick was willing to reveal a major reason for leaving Los Angeles and it was quite damning.

"It’s s—y to say this, but I think I’ve had a loss of joy," he said. "I look at our team and how we play, and it’s just there’s no joy in it. That bothers me."

After beginning the campaign in impressive fashion, the Clippers soon tailed off and injuries to Blake Griffin in both the regular season and playoffs hurt their chances and they were bounced in the first round by the Utah Jazz.

Redick admits that he knew he wasn't going to re-sign with the franchise all along as both he and the team were not interested in continuing their relationship.

"On June 29th at about 10 p.m., I got a call from Lawrence Frank from the Clippers. I jokingly call it my breakup call," he said. "He just told me they weren’t going to offer me a contract. I wasn’t going to be back."

For one reason or another, the Clippers didn't materialise into a championship contending team and failed to live up to expectations despite having three All-Stars on their roster.

But despite J.J. admitting it, it was clear to the naked eye that the players were not enjoying being on the floor together.

In his introductory press conference with the Rockets, CP3 was not afraid to admit that this the "most excited" he's been about basketball in a long time, which is a stinging indictment on the Clippers.

In terms of Redick, he's certainly landed on a team where he can enjoy his basketball again. Being in the presence of Joel Embiid on a daily basis will surely help with that.

But from a basketball perspective, the 33-year-old will be the experienced head among an exciting young group of players which also features Ben Simmons, Markelle Fultz and Dario Saric.
