Not many people would want to step between the ropes with Anthony Joshua at the moment. Earlier this year, he dispensed with Wladimir Klitschko with a series of fierce punches in the 11th-round to claim the WBA and IBO titles to go with his IBF belt.

Since then, every week we’ve heard who his next opponent might be. A rematch with Klitschko is often mentioned, along with the mandatory candidate - Kubrat Pulev for the IBF title - and others such as Tyson Fury. However, no fight has been scheduled for the unbeaten Briton to date.

Another contender could be Luis Ortiz, nicknamed ‘King Kong’, who has also never lost a competitive professional fight in 27 bouts with 23 knockouts to his name.

Cuban Ortiz has been fighting in the heavyweight division for some time now and believes he now deserves the chance to take on the best in the business.

But with Joshua's congested calendar, Ortiz has been forced to explore other options and his manager has revealed a clash with Deontay Wilder now looks most likely.

Wilder is the current WBC champion and Jay Jiminez thinks that a fight with the American is actually tougher than it would be to take on Joshua.

“He knows it’s a dangerous fight, because of Wilder’s style – he’s very awkward, but he knows what he’s up against,” Jiminez told BoxingScene.com.

He then continued to cast aspersions on Anthony Joshua’s threat by claiming: “He (Ortiz) believes Joshua is the easier fight, he’s easier to box.

"We believe Wilder wants the fight, he's not afraid. He's not like Joshua, who's never mentioned Ortiz's name. Ortiz's name has never once come out of Joshua's mouth, the guy is a p*ssy. We don't think Joshua wants anything to do with King Kong

This is sure to incite Joshua into some form of retort but it’s also a clever reverse psychology tactic from Ortiz’s management.

Anthony Joshua has been enjoying his time off, having been out in the wild with Bear Grylls, spending time with family and even posing outside Floyd Mayweather’s gym in Las Vegas. His promoter Eddie Hearn has apparently been speaking with MGM representatives, fuelling speculation that a rematch between AJ and Klitschko will be going ahead later this year.

If that is to go ahead, that will mean that any fight between Luis Ortiz and Deontay Wilder will excite fans even more because the outcome of both bouts will likely lead to an eventual unification match between the two winners.

It’s likely the Ortiz fight with Wilder could go ahead in November ahead of the possible AJ versus Klitschko rematch.
