Liverpool have won their first trophy of the season!Okay, so the Premier League Asia Trophy isn’t anything to shout home about. But victories over Crystal Palace and in today’s final over Leicester City show that Jurgen Klopp’s side is well equipped to deal with their Premier League opponents in the upcoming season.Liverpool defeated the Foxes 2-1 in Hong Kong and the link-up play from Philippe Coutinho and Mohamed Salah, who were both on the scoresheet for the Reds after Islam Slimani gave Leicester an early lead, will have left the club’s fans giddy with excitement.Captain Jordan Henderson lifted the trophy at full-time but there was a subdued atmosphere amongst the Liverpool players when he did so. They all know that the real competition is to come.

Mignolet was aired at medal presentation

Still, the silverware is nice. Henderson and co. were even given individual winner’s medals to mark their achievement in Asia.

There’s a video doing the rounds on social media of Simon Mignolet being aired by the person handing out the medals. The Liverpool goalkeeper offered his hand but was ignored, and gave a hilarious nod of disapproval after doing so.

The Belgian has since tweeted about the incident.

“I tried to be friendly… 😂🤦‍♀️♂️🤝,” he wrote.

Poor guy. Perhaps the man was a Leicester, or Everton, supporter.

Klopp commented on Coutinho rumours

Coutinho showed just why he’s attracting interest from Barcelona with a virtuoso performance.

And Klopp moved to ensure Liverpool supporters that the Brazilian will be going nowhere this summer, insisting Coutinho is “comfortable” in Liverpool and loves the club.

“Everybody knows Phil Coutinho is a key player for us, no doubt,” Klopp told reporters, via Liverpool’s website.

“I know that he feels completely more than fine, comfortable, whatever, in Liverpool. He loves the club, loves the city, all that is clear.

“That he is able to play like tonight in a very, very difficult moment of pre-season after all these sessions is good to see and shows his big potential.”

Liverpool’s first game of the season is exactly three weeks away but Klopp already knows which XI he would like to start when the Reds travel to Watford for the season opener.

“I’ve made all of my decisions,” he added. “All of the others are ‘definite starters’ apart from the players I cannot bring into the 11.

“I hope and really pray that I have more than 11 players when we start [the season] and then I will make the choice.”
