Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool have enjoyed a relatively successful pre-season as they prepare for the new campaign which is less than three weeks away.

Mohamed Salah, Dominic Solanke and Andrew Robertson have all made the switch to Anfield in that time, while they currently step up their preparations for the new campaign in South East Asia.

With the Reds returning to the Champions League this campaign, pre-season couldn't be any more important for Klopp.

It's the first time since taking over in October 2015 that the German will witness Champions League nights at Anfield, but it's what he and his squad work on now which will determine their success.

For Liverpool fans, a Champions League return will not count for a lot if they don't enjoy relative success. However, the early signs so far have been promising.

Ahead of beginning their pre-season tour, Liverpool secured a win and draw against Tranmere Rovers and Wigan Athletic respectively. And have now added the Premier League Asia Trophy to their success.

Leicester victory wins Liverpool trophy

Liverpool's 2-1 win over Leicester City on Saturday secured the Merseysiders the trophy, having already beaten Crystal Palace 2-0 in the previous game.

A 12th-minute headed goal from Islam Slimani had given the Foxes the lead, but goals from new recruit Salah and sought-after Philippe Coutinho turned the game on its head.

Inevitably, Klopp was going to be content with Liverpool's back-to-back wins in the tournament.

But despite having yet to lose in pre-season, there was something the Reds boss was upset about during his side's win over Leicester.

"Two games, two wins so that's of course the best thing," Klopp said, per Sky Sports.

"I thought we could have defended the first goal seven times already, but in the end it is a cross and a free header so it's not nice but it's what happens.

"We came back and even before the good goal, we were already the dominant side and playing good football so it was all OK.

Klopp reveals what Reds must fix

"I liked everything I saw but that [defensive work] is something we need to fix 100 per cent. I know it is pre-season and we can change it but it is something I don't like already so we need to work on it."

It was the Reds' fragility at the back that arguably cost Liverpool the chance to challenge for the title until the final weeks of the campaign, last season.

Liverpool conceded 42 times - more than any other top four side last campaign - and was identified as an area the club desperately need to strengthen.

And Klopp has already progressed in that department by bringing in Andrew Robertson from Hull City, who will assume the left-back role that was occupied by midfielder James Milner last campaign.

But it seems that the Liverpool boss believes his team's defensive vulnerability will not be fixed solely with new signings, but with plenty of work on the training ground also.
