So far this summer, a lot of transfer news has centred around Monaco's prodigal son, Kylian Mbappe, who has become world football's most sought-after player.

The 18-year-old star burst onto the scene at the start of 2017, guiding the principality club to the Ligue 1 title and the Champions League semi-final, scoring 26 goals in all competitions.

Naturally, the first party to jump on the Mbappe bandwagon were Real Madrid, the club renowned for signing Europe's finest for astronomical fees.

It has been rumoured that Los Blancos will offer Leonardo Jardim's side a world-record fee for Mbappe.

But, it seems the French international is set to remain in France for at least another season after the club denounced Europe's elite for their pursuit of the teenager, saying they will sue if they continue their illegal actions.

With Alvaro Morata departing for Chelsea in a £70m deal and Mbappe looking less and less likely, Zinedine Zidane's side find themselves looking slightly bare in the striking department.

As such, the Champions League holders have identified two new targets should they fail in their pursuit of Mbappe and they may come as quite a surprise.

Ajax's Kasper Dolberg and Sassuolo's Domenico Berardi are the two young stars named, with Real's hierarchy said to be closely monitoring the two forwards, according to Marca.

It is also said that they would rather sign one of the two than promote exciting youth prospect, Borja Mayoral, and will instead send the young Spaniard out on loan to a La Liga side for next season.

Dolberg's name is certainly more understandable given that the 19-year-old Danish striker scored 23 goals for Ajax last season but Berardi makes little sense.

The Italian winger has copious amounts of talent but his lack of application should warrant him not fit for a club of Real's ilk - he even struggles to start for Italy's U21 side now.

The sad truth is that neither can bear in comparison to Mbappe as Real seemed prepared to miss out on their number one target.
