Jose Mourinho has done well to get two of his major Manchester United targets through the door at Old Trafford in an increasingly tough transfer market.

Spending in the summer window, already, has been quite phenomenal, as clubs hold each other to ransom over the availability of their players.

Luckily for Mourinho, though, there have been nearly as many successful transfers as there have been stalled transfer talks, so far.

Victor Lindelof and Romelu Lukaku have both arrived for well over £100 million, while United may consider giving up on their pursuit of Nemanja Matic, while talks for Ivan Perisic are still ongoing.

The Red Devils are unwilling to meet Chelsea's £50 million Matic valuation it seems, while a deal for Perisic still appears to be a genuine possibility.

Mourinho has already admitted he may have to settle for just one more signing this summer but, in an ideal world, the Portuguese would welcome a number of new signings.

AS Monaco teenage sensation Kylian Mbappe has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks and months, while so has Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale.

While the likeliness of United signing the Monaco striker is unclear, a move for Bale has reportedly seemed to be far more likely.

However, ahead of United's pre-season friendly against Los Blancos in Santa Clara on Sunday, Mourinho admitted it was very clear to him that it wasn't worth wasting time on pursuing Bale.

Mourinho explains why United didn't pursue Bale

"You have contacts, you have feelings, you understand things. I think it was clear that Bale likes Madrid, the challenge, the situation," said Mourinho, per the Daily Mail.

"He's in a club in a very good situation now. I never felt a desire from him to leave, so why lose time and energy on that?"

It had been believed that Real would possibly consider the sale of Bale in order to help fund their own interest in pursuing a move for Mbappe.

Red Devils make Dier bid

But one player Mourinho does believe it is worth United spending time on trying to sign this summer is Tottenham's Eric Dier.

The Red Devils have reportedly submitted a £40 million bid to the north Londoners, who are keen to avoid selling any of their key players.

But even if the United boss doesn't secure the England international's services, things are beginning to take shape at Old Trafford and are making for exciting times ahead.
