Former boxing champion Evander Holyfield has given Anthony Joshua some timely advice - forget all about fighting Tyson Fury.
Joshua and Fury have engaged in plenty of trash talk over the past few months, especially since Joshua beat Wladimir Klitschko back in May.
While the 27-year-old may be tempted to settle the argument in the ring once and for all, Holyfield has urged the current unified heavyweight champion to set his goals a fair bit higher.
The Sun reported Holyfield as saying: “Joshua has to think about his image.
"He doesn’t need to be against someone like Fury who jokes a lot and is seen in a different light.
"Joshua has talked about becoming the first billionaire fighter and if he is serious then he will need the big-name fights and Fury really isn’t one of those for Joshua.”
Holyfield has admitted he was surprised that Joshua defeated the legendary Ukrainian, and also said that he needs to keep his ego in check should they have a rematch.
“It would be a bona fide rematch, but Joshua has to avoid starting to have an ego.
"He must avoid thinking ‘I don’t have to work as hard this time, I’ve proved I can beat him and I can do it again."
The fight against Klitschko was the only time he had gone past the seventh round (Joshua won in a TKO in the 11th round) and in all of his 19 fights to date, 16 of them have finished within three rounds.
The Hertfordshire native has the boxing world at his feet and plenty of options to choose from.
Deontay Wilder, Joseph Parker, a rematch with David Haye, and maybe one day, Fury, are all options for Joshua, but according to Holyfield, the latter should not be considered.
It remains to be seen which path he takes for his future fights, but it is certain that he is going to take his fans on a very exciting ride.
