WWE's creation of The Undertaker character is, arguably, their greatest invention of all time.

The character made its WWE TV debut at the 1990 Survivor Series pay-per-view (PPV) as a member of The Million Dollar Team with Ted DiBiase. He played an integral part in DiBiase and company winning the bout. He quickly won the WWE Championship his first year in the company, becoming the then-youngest champion in the company's history.

He embarked in feuds with the likes of Yokozuna and Mankind, shortly before the debut of his storyline brother, Kane. "The Big Red Machine" made his debut at Badd Blood: In Your House 1997 while Taker competed against Shawn Michaels in the first ever Hell In A Cell Match.

Kane tore down the cage door and beat Taker down, costing him the match and sparking the beginning of their rivalry. Over the years "The Deadman" established himself as one of the biggest fan favorite characters in the WWE. He reigned as the WWE Champion four times, the World Heavyweight Champion three times, a seven time Tag Team Champion, and the winner of the 2007 Royal Rumble.

He was able to rack up an undefeated 21-0 streak at WrestleMania before having that snapped against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 30 in 2014. After picking up two more wins against Bray Wyatt and Shane McMahon at "The Show Of Shows," Taker ran into current WWE top dog Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 33 this past April.

Reigns defeated Taker clean in the middle of the ring to hand him his second ever loss in WrestleMania competition. After the match, "The Deadman" left his coat and hat in the center of the ring before walking away - most likely signaling the end of his in-ring career.

Former WWE referee Jimmy Korderas recently did an interview with A Music Blog, Yea? (AMBY) and reflected on The Undertaker's career, who he called multiple matches for inside the ring, and stated that he doesn't believe anyone else could've played The Undertaker character as well as Mark Calaway did (quotes via Wrestling Inc.):

"[At WrestleMania 33] When he put his coat, hat, and gloves down it really hit home. It really was the end of an era. You always say there will be another Superstar that will reach that level again, but I think this one is going to be tough to top.

"Because nobody has ever had the longevity [of a] career like he has on top. I don't remember who said, but they said, 'You can get a thousand guys to play The Undertaker character. Only one guy made it work and that was the man did it.'"
