Lionel Messi has scored so many unbelievable goals during his illustrious career that it’s hard to pick one out as the best.

Some people will say his remarkable solo goal against Getafe back in 2007 is the greatest goal of his career, while others will mention his incredible individual effort against Athletic Bilbao in the 2015 Copa del Rey final.

He’s also scored some fabulous goals against Real Madrid and some of the best free-kicks of recent years.

Another wonder goal that Messi fans remember fondly is his second against Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-finals back in May 2015.

The one where he stole Jerome Boateng’s soul before dinking the ball over Manuel Neuer, the goalkeeper widely considered as the world’s best at the time.

When Messi stole Boateng's soul

We’re certain you’ll all remember it, but it’s always worth another watch…

"That fall didn't really affect me," Boateng told ESPN, several weeks after being mercilessly mocked on social media, per Goal. "I was laughing at myself, too! When you fall down or slip in a situation and somebody scores a goal, it's normal.

"These things happen; it happens to me, it happens to other players, I don't care about these things.

"For me, he's the best player in the world. That's football. Sometimes you look bad or something happens. I'm a defender, that doesn't kill me or anything."

Now Mascherano knows how Boateng felt

Javier Mascherano was in the same starting line-up as Messi that night and must have had a great view of Boateng hitting the deck at the Camp Nou.

Fast-forward two years and the Argentine defender has now experienced the same humiliation - albeit not on quite the same scale - in training.

Faced up against his superstar compatriot in a one-v-one, Mascherano back-peddles before stumbling over, bamboozled by Messi’s touches.

We’re sure Messi has probably done this to all of his teammates at some point.

However, Mascherano was just unfortunate that his humiliation at the hands of Messi happened in an open training session, with thousands of fans capturing the moment on their mobile phones.

If he needs advice on how to cope with the inevitable memes, he best give Boateng a call.
