It’s been three years since Luis Suarez shocked the world by biting Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini at the 2014 World Cup.Suarez’s moment of madness resulted in him being banned from all football-related activity for four months while being banned for nine international matches, which ruled him out of the remainder of the World Cup.Remarkably, despite all of the replays, Suarez protested his innocence after the event by saying: “These are just things that happen out on the pitch. It was just the two of us inside the area and he bumped into me with his shoulder."

Since then, though, it appeared that Suarez and Chiellini have buried the hatchet.

They met twice this season in the Champions League quarter-finals and even swapped shirts after Juventus knocked Barcelona out 3-0 on aggregate.

But the tough-tackling defender was always going to try and get his own back on Suarez one day. And that day came in a friendly between Juve and Barcelona.

The two sides clashed at the MetLife Stadium on Saturday night with Ernesto Valverde’s side running out 2-1 winners thanks to a brace from Neymar.

Chiellini himself pulled a goal back for the Champions League finalists in the second-half but it was his collision with Suarez that we’re focusing on.

With the ball bobbling around outside Juve’s box, Suarez tried to knock the ball past Chiellini.

However, the defender wasn’t having any of it. He can be seen sticking his knee right into Suarez’s upper thigh, no doubt giving him a nasty dead leg in the process.

It looks very deliberate.

Watch: Chiellini gets revenge on Suarez

Take a look:

And Spanish outlet Sport produced a follow-up story on Suarez’s injury. He claimed the striker sustained “a severe contusion after a blow that he received in a clash with Chiellini during the match.”

And Barcelona also posted a video of Suarez the morning after his clash as he limps onto the training pitch.

Revenge is a dish best served cold.
